This ad was simply created to make people feel sympathetic towards the environment by showing how we are destroying it.
How are they doing this?
They are doing this by using rhetorical devices like ethos and pathos! (if you are unsure about what a rhetoric is, look at the second video).
The WWF is an organization that is known for helping out endangered species. By helping endangered species, they are building their credibility as a company to get more citizens to contribute in helping the world. In this case, their ethos is portraying themselves as a reliable organization thus, making people want to help out.
The WWF then uses pathos by incorporating cold colors like blue, gray, and black, it makes people feel sympathetic towards our environment and more specifically the wildlife.
To reiterate, the image uses pathos when it utilizes plastic bags, citizens are all guilty of using plastic bags-and most know the environmental impact they have- however they continue to use them. With that, people feel a sense of guilt or might even feel ashamed.
